CBT: Basics & Beyond

Instructors

Rachel Cooper, Psy.D. & Laura Kottkamp, L.I.C.S.W.

Description

This workshop will provide a review of the basics of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) covering the theoretical foundations of the field, while also focusing on strategies and particular clinical applications. Basic techniques of CBT will be reviewed, including: psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, self-monitoring, skills acquisition, behavioral modification, identifying core beliefs, and conditioning, among others. The workshop will also emphasize the integration of CBT principles and strategies with other “third wave” behavioral approaches, such as mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches, as well as other current models like internal family systems (IFS), among others. The instructors will share ample vignettes of their clinical work as a way to illustrate the basic principles of CBT. This workshop targets mental health professionals, including: psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, mental health counselors, advanced practice psychiatric nurses, and licensed family and marriage and family therapists. Participants will learn concrete interventions with supporting theory and empirical evidence, which they will be ready to implement with their patients to effectively treat a variety of psychological and psycho-physiological problems.
